Here is an overview of notes, reminders and thoughts at the end of day one.

1) In the morning, Lynne spoke about Web 2.0, 21st century learning and many other educational themes. We then worked in teams on Web 2.0 challenges and hopefully you encountered some websites like wordle, google search stories and others that you can use in your classes. We ended the morning with the 33 questions on page 140 and we made Summercore history by getting thru the first 16 before lunch. What I did not tell you but am telling you now is that you can find video lessons on the 33 questions on the www.summercore33.com/33questions webpage. For extra credit, please check out a few of the videos from 17-33 and see if you can learn the answers via the video lessons -- the flipped classroom!

2) In the afternoon, Sam worked through many skills of Google Docs with you ("more to come tomorrow") and we ended the day with Twitter and PTI (Pardon the Interruption). Using twitter for HW works remarkably well for me since I have already at 6pm seen some of you finish 1 of the 2 assignments and tweet about it. Furthermore, we can thank Karen for tweeting all of the PTI websites below at www.twitter.com/sc2905

Hope you had a good first day and hope you do not feel either overwhelmed or bored ;-) See you all at 9am tomorrow, but please use my phone or email if you have questions. Steve Bergen (sbergen33@gmail.com or cell 781-953-9699)

HW -- read chapter 6 or 16 thoroughly and send one tweet about what you found interesting. All chapters can be found on summercore33.com/chapters or the bottom of summercore33.com/hell Secondly -- study the first 16 questions on page 240 and use the videos on www.summercore33.com/33questions for repeat lessons on any of the 16 questions

Extra credit? watch some of the videos from 17-33 on that same web page! Reminder that the purpose of the 33 questions is to give you a "solid base" of know-how with essential computer vocabulary and concepts. Years ago, when Mark Twain came to Summercore, he said the 33 questions reminded him of his comment that "a person's legs should be long enough to touch the ground when standing up."

Day 2

Summary of HW
1) read chapter 4 or 5 or 14 (just one chapter)
2) send one tweet about something you found interesting about that chapter and please mention the chapter you read (tweet should use #summercore)
3) watch 3 of the videos on the webpage of summercore33.com/33questions relating to questions 21 to 33
4) send one tweet about which video you liked best and why
5) study the first 20 questions
6) follow 10 of your Summercore colleagues (first login to your twitter account, then navigate to summercore33.com/sc and click on any colleague's twitter account and choose FOLLOW

p.s. since you know that 650 megabytes makes a CD and 1 floppy disk was 1 megabyte, you may appreciate the fact that many years ago, I stacked 650 floppy disks to show how tall it would be -- see http://www.summercore33.com/33/birdall.jpg Summary of Day Two -- morning roundtable discussion -- thinking about iPads (Sam) -- JV iPad Skills (Lynne) vs Varsity iBooks Author (Sam) -- review of questions 1-20 -- JV/Varsity split on Google Doc Spreadsheet and Forms -- closing PTI
